The peshtemal is a traditional Turkish towel. The peshtemal has survived to the present day from the historical Turkish bath period. The Turkish towel has a history of about six hundred years in Anatolia. In Anatolia, the peshtemal was primarily used as a bath towel. The sultans of the Ottoman dynasty also wore peshtemals in the hammam. According to ancient Turkish traditions, when a couple decided to get married, they would give each other a bath set as a gift. The Turkish towel peshtemal was the most indispensable part of this set. Today, peshtemal is used as bath towels and bathrobes on beaches, in saunas, sauna towel wraps, sauna bench towels, hammams and Turkish baths. Turkish Towel Peshtemal is also preferred for traveling because it is thin and light and dries very easily. It is as absorbent as terry towel.
